CRTC names Bell as Operator of the National Do Not Call List
Bell Canada has been selected by the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) to operate the National Do Not Call List (DNCL), a nation-wide initiative that enables consumers to register their telephone numbers to reduce the number of telemarketing calls they receive.
As National DNCL Operator, Bell will design, develop, implement and operate the National DNCL to:
- Accept consumer registrations of telephone numbers on the DNCL
- Make the DNCL available to telemarketers and collect related fees, and
- Register consumer complaints about telemarketing
Consumers who want to avoid unsolicited calls can register their wireline, wireless, and fax numbers, free of charge, on the National DNCL using the Internet, or by calling a toll-free number.
The DNCL is expected to be launched by September 30, 2008. Canadian businesses have 31 days to comply with the list, once it is launched.
The National Do Not Call list was the theme of our November edition of Impact, and you can access this issue for additional information and resources by clicking here.
