Convergence at the 2010 Winter Games

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) needed to create a reliable, scalable and highly available network for the 2010 Winter Games. Bell’s solution was to converge voice and data over a single network in order to connect 10,000 journalists, 1.8 million spectators and 3 billion television viewers.

One of the biggest challenges faced by VANOC is the limited communication network between Vancouver and Whistler. The solution is a unified Internet Protocol-based fibre optic cable network connecting Whistler to Vancouver and 130 other venues.
