I am getting a Timeout or Mail Server Not Responding error. How do I fix it?

Step 1: Restart your computer.

Step 2: Surf the Internet. If you can't open a Web page, then the problem is not with your email.

Step 3: Disable any antivirus software (Norton, McAfee, Bell Internet Security, etc.).

Step 4: Disable any firewall software (Zone Alarm, Black Ice, etc.).

Step 5: Disconnect any servers, routers or hubs and try to send and receive email from a standalone computer.

Step 6: Try receiving mail again.

If your email is still not working check your email settings by following the steps below:

In Outlook Express

Step 1: Open Outlook Express and click on Tools -> Accounts.

Step 2: Click on the Mail tab and select your account.

Step 3: Click on Properties then click on the Servers tab.

Step 4: Verify that your Incoming mail (POP3) server is pop.bellnet.ca and that your Outgoing mail (SMTP): is smtp.bellnet.ca

Step 5: Click on Apply, OK and then Close.

Step 6: Try receiving or sending mail again.

In Microsoft Outlook

Step 1: Open your email program and click on Tools and E-mail Accounts.

Step 2: Click on View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next.

Step 3: Select the correct email account and click on Change.

Step 4: Verify that your Incoming mail server (POP3) is pop.bellnet.ca and that your Outgoing mail server (SMTP) is smtp.bellnet.ca.

Step 5: Click on Next and then Finish.

Step 6: Try receiving or sending mail again.
