At Bell, security is a top priority, and in light of our responsibility to safeguard your information, we’re providing you with an important update on a recent incident.

We became aware that some operational company and employee information was accessed in a recent cybersecurity incident targeted at Bell Technical Solutions, an independent subsidiary specializing in the installation of Bell services for residential and small business customers in Ontario and Québec.

Bell Technical Solutions took immediate steps to secure affected systems and we want to assure you that no database containing customer information such as credit and debit card numbers, banking or other financial data was accessed in the incident.

However, the unauthorized party accessed information that may include the name, address and phone number of residential and small business customers in Ontario and Québec who booked a technician visit. We will directly notify any individuals whose private information may have been accessed. Bell Technical Solutions operates independently from Bell on a separate IT system; other Bell customers or other Bell subsidiaries were not impacted.

We are pursuing our investigation and working with third-party cybersecurity experts on the matter, as well as implementing solutions to further enhance the security of our systems.

We became aware that some operational company and employee information was accessed in a recent cybersecurity incident targeted at Bell Technical Solutions, an independent subsidiary specializing in the installation of Bell services for residential and small business customers in Ontario and Québec. Bell Technical Solutions took immediate steps to secure affected systems.

We want to assure you that the databases containing customer information such as credit and debit card numbers, banking or other financial data were not accessed in the incident.

The name, address and phone number of residential and small business customers in Ontario and Québec who booked a technician visit may have been accessed by an unauthorized party. We will directly notify any individuals whose private information may have been accessed.

We are pursuing our investigation and have engaged the RCMP’s cyber crime unit. We have also notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

The information accessed may include the name, address and phone number of any residential or small business customer who booked a technician visit in Ontario or Québec. Databases containing customer information such as credit and debit card numbers, banking or other financial data were not accessed.

Should we determine in the course of our investigation that the incident requires further notification, we will make every effort to contact you.

Bell Technical Solutions operates independently from Bell on a separate IT system; other Bell customers or other Bell subsidiaries, including Bell Aliant and Bell MTS are not impacted.

Devices such as modems or set-top boxes were not impacted.

Base on our ongoing investigation, there are no immediate actions that you need to take. However, we recommend that you remain wary of unsolicited communications that ask for your personal information, avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails and that you regularly review your accounts for suspicious activity.

We are committed to protecting the security and privacy of our customers. Immediately upon becoming aware of the incident, Bell Technical Solutions took the necessary steps to secure its affected systems. We are pursuing our investigation and have engaged the RCMP’s cyber crime unit, and are engaged in constant monitoring and analysis to identify any issues that arise. We are working with third-party cybersecurity experts and are implementing supplementary solutions to further enhance the security of our systems.
