About the program and your information
When using the Internet on your mobile device, laptop, computer or TV you currently see advertising on websites and applications. The relevant advertising program uses select information about your account and network usage to make the ads you see more relevant to you. This won’t mean more ads; rather it will mean ads that may be of greater interest.
This program is designed to protect your information and uses audience-based data. We will not share any information that identifies you personally outside of Bell Canada and its affiliates.
For instance, a report shows 10,000 Bell mobile customers visited travel sites. These customers might then start to see banner ads as they browse which offer travel promotions that might be of interest to them.
You have the choice to easily opt out of this program at any time. Initially, Bell Mobility customers will be the first to benefit from this program but we look forward to expanding it to Bell residential customers in the future.
Below are the types of information that will be used:
- Account information - such as device type, postal code and language preference
- Network usage information - such as app usage, location, web pages visited, TV viewing, calling patterns and other information associated with your network usage.
To opt out of the relevant advertising program, please select the option that applies to you:
Where will I see relevant advertising?
You will see ads in the same places you see them today, such as on websites you visit or applications you use.
What if I don’t want my usage and network information used for relevant advertising purposes?
You can opt out of this program at any time. Simply visit bell.ca/relevantads, enter your mobile number and select ‘Unfiltered random ads (opt-out).’
If I’ve opted out of the relevant ads program, will I still see ads?
Yes. You will continue to see advertising as you do today. By opting out of the relevant advertising program the ads simply may not be as relevant to you.
Will opting out at bell.ca/relevantads opt me out of the program for all my Bell services?
At this time, Bell Mobility customers are the first to benefit from this program. But we look forward to expanding it to TV and Internet customers in the future. If you are a Bell Mobility customer with multiple Bell services on a One Bill account and choose to opt out, you will be opted-out of all future relevant ad programs.
Have other companies implemented similar programs?
Yes. This program is not unique to Bell, and has been implemented by companies around the world including telecommunications providers, search providers and social media companies.
