Described video

Also called video description, described narrative or descriptive video.

Described video provides a narrated description of a TV program’s main visual elements, such as settings, costumes, actions and on-screen text. The narration is added during pauses in dialogue, and enables people with vision loss to form a mental picture of the program.

Fibe TV app subscribers can enable described video from the Settings menu.Select the My Account tab and then select On in the Described Video section.

To enable it on Apple TV, go to Settings then Accessibility, then select On in the Described Audio section.

Screen reader

Also called VoiceOver and TalkBack.

Screen Reader provides an audible description of the Fibe TV app’s main visual elements, such as text, buttons, images and other screen elements. The audible description allows users to browse, navigate through and consume content in an auditory way.

Fibe TV app subscribers can turn on/off Screen Reader on the following devices:

  • Android phones and tablets (Android 7+):
    • Voice commands: Say “Hey Google, turn on TalkBack” or “Hey Google, turn off TalkBack.”
    • Device settings: Go to Settings then Accessibility then TalkBack then Use TalkBack.
  • Android TV (Android 9+):
    • Device settings: Go to Settings, scroll to the Device Preferences section and select Accessibility. Then, select TalkBack then Enable then OK.
  • Apple phones and tablets (iOS 13+):
    • Voice commands: Say “Hey Siri, turn on VoiceOver” or “Hey Siri, turn off VoiceOver.”
    • Device settings: Go to Settings then Accessibility then VoiceOver and switch the setting on/off.
  • Apple TV (tvOS 14+):
    • Voice commands: Hold the Siri button on the Siri Remote and say “Turn VoiceOver on” or “Turn VoiceOver off.”
    • Remote: Press the Menu button or the Back button three times.
    • Device settings: Go to Settings then Accessibility then VoiceOver and switch the setting on/off.
  • Bell Streamer (latest version):
    • Remote: Hold the Down and Back buttons for three seconds
    • Device settings: Go to Settings, scroll to the Device section and select Settings. Then, select Device Preferences then Accessibility then TalkBack then Enable then OK.
  • Amazon Fire TV (Fire OS 5+):
    • Remote: Hold the Back and Menu buttons for two seconds to turn VoiceView on/off.
    • Device settings: Go to Settings then Accessibility then VoiceView and select VoiceView again to turn it on/off.
  • Web (latest version):
    • Windows computer:
      • Browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox
      • Screen Reader: NVDA
      • Using the keyboard, press Ctrl + Windows + Enter.
    • Mac computer:
      • Browsers: Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox
      • Screen Reader: VoiceOver
      • Using the keyboard, press Command + F5.

Please note: The Fibe TV app may work with Screen Reader on operating system (OS) versions older than the above. The steps to enable the feature may vary depending on the device type/OS version.
